Class Description

Taking lifesaving care to the next level with this optional skill boost designed to meet your unique needs or desires. Skill boosts can be taught as stand-alone modules to participants that are already Red Cross certified or they can be added to a First Aid/CPR/AED course.


After completing this lesson, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize life-threatening bleeding.

  • Understand the use of direct pressure and a tourniquet to control bleeding.

  • Understand the function of hemostatic dressings for controlling life-threatening bleeding.• Demonstrate how to control life-threatening bleeding using direct pressure.

  • Demonstrate how to control life-threatening bleeding using a tourniquet.

  • Demonstrate how to control life-threatening bleeding using wound packing..

Participants must be certified in First Aid and/or CPR or enrolled in an equivalent Red Cross course to take this skill boost.


Participatns who complete the requiments of this course will receive an American Red Cross certifcation in Life-Threatening Bleeding and Tourniquet Application.
