Class Description

DobroSKILLS offers Wilderness and Remote First Aid training for small groups and organizations of 6–10 participants, creating an interactive, hands-on learning experience tailored to your team.

Designed for scouts and leaders, outdoor enthusiasts, guides, and anyone who works or recreates in remote environments, this course prepares participants to respond confidently when professional medical help may be delayed or unavailable. The curriculum is based on the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid guidelines and aligns with OSHA best practices for workplace first aid training.


What You’ll Learn

Participants develop practical skills and decision-making strategies for managing medical emergencies in the field, including:

  • Patient primary and secondary assessments

  • Head, brain, neck, and spinal injuries

  • Heat-related illnesses

  • Hypothermia and cold emergencies

  • Altitude-related illnesses

  • Allergies and anaphylaxis

  • Burns

  • Bone and joint injuries

  • Wound care and infection prevention


Course Format

  • Duration: Two days (minimum 16 hours)

  • Delivery: In-person, combining lecture, guided discussion, and hands-on skill practice

  • Class Size: Small groups to maximize engagement and scenario realism


Certification

Participants who successfully complete the course receive a Wilderness and Remote First Aid certification valid for two years. Digital certificates are typically issued within one business day and delivered via email, with verification available through the American Red Cross.


Optional Add-On: CPR/AED

Students may add Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED certification for an additional fee. This is a blended learning option that includes:

  1. Self-paced online coursework

  2. A 2-hour in-person skills session

Upon successful completion of both components, participants receive an American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED certification.

Is This Class Right For You?

Designed for scouts and scout leaders, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who works or spends time in remote environments. Students must be at least 14 years old and have a certifcation in Adult CPR/AED.


This course is taught indoors and outdoors. Participants should come prepared to work in all weather envrionments during this course and prepared to work on the ground. 

This class is an American Red Cross Class.

Always check with your employer for certification requirements.

Course Length

The in-person training is delivered over a two-day weekend and includes a minimum of 16 instructional hours for groups of 6–10 participants. Each day blends classroom learning with hands-on scenarios to build confidence and real-world decision-making skills.

  • Lightning injuries

  • Altitude illness

  • Submersion incidents

The CPR/AED course uses a blended learning format. The online portion typically takes 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on experience and technology comfort. Participants receive the training link by email after registration and must complete the online coursework before attending the in-person skills session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is CPR part of Wildlife and Remote First Aid Course?

The American Red Cross (ARC) requires all participants of the Wildlife and Remote First Aid Course to have a minimum of an Adult CPR/AED certification. The ARC Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED r.25 certification is added to make sure all participants go above and beyond this requirement.

Is it safe to use an AED in the rain.

An AED is safe to use in the rain or snow. Avoid puddles and always provide a dry area when possible.

What is A Blended Learning (BL) Class?

A Blended Learning (BL) Class gives students the ability to do most of the training online then attend an in-person session to test their skills. The online portion can range from 30 minutes to 3 hours long depending on technology limitations and familiarity with the skills. The in-person session is typically 2 hours and 30 minutes long.
