Class Description

Practical Fire and Life Safety Skills & Pathways in Museums is an innovative youth education program for high school students that combines life-saving emergency preparedness training with career exploration. This free program is available to students attending high school in the local community.**


Participants will earn a two-year American Red Cross Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certification, learn how to safely use a fire extinguisher, and explore careers in museums and community service institutions. Students will also build a mini first aid kit to take home. Those who successfully complete the program will receive a $20 Amazon gift card.


Students will learn how to respond to:

  • Adult and children who are in cardiac arrest

  • Adult and children who are choking. 

  • Emergencies will severe bleeding

  • How to use a Fire extinguisher 


This program is free thanks to partnership with the Aurora Regional Fire Museum and a grant from the Dunham Foundation

This class is an American Red Cross Class.

Course Length

5 Hour Instructor Led Session. No pre-course work required. 

Frequently Asked Questions

Do participants receive certification?

Yes. Participants who successfully complete the course receive a digital American Red Cross certification, valid for two years. Administrators will get a PDF file of all certificates. All certificates can be found on the Red Cross Website.
